SL11B 2

Every time there are special exhibition using several exclusive SIMs other than separated booths. This is a dance floor, the brown one right above on the previous map.

Entrance hall? It had a mood of INSILICO, so I wore a space suit.

A gangway to the dance floor.

There is an open deck in front of the hall, so it was possible to fly in from here.

Panorama view from another observation deck. Although it was reduced since last time, still it has more than 200 exhibitions. In addition, there were shows and presentations every day, so it is impossible to see all within one weekend. Dear Linden, it is OK to do performances within a week, but please keep the exhibition at least one month!

SL11B

Happy birthday SL! The SL11B will be until June 30. Another joyful world of chaos…

Schedule: http://slcommunitycelebration.com/performances/

I felt the last one was a bit in low gear although it was the 10th anniversary. This year it became rather smaller. The number of SIMs were reduced but themes seem to be set steadily.

This is SL9B, two years ago. This was the first experience for me and very impressive. The SIMs and exhibition were almost double of this year. How were the ones when SL was at the height of its prosperity? I have been in SL too long. It could be about time to graduate from…

Geothermal Plant

Kazumi the owner of Baba Meeting Area has built a geothermal power plant. Taking this occasion I tried to study about geothermal energy.
Geothermal plant: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Publius/186/235/30

I think everybody knows that the geothermal plant is to generate electricity through a turbine using steam from underground. A question is why it has not been used widely in Japan that has many volcanos. The three structures at the central position are production wells where the steam comes up. The large building behind is a cooling tower through which most of the heat from underground (80%?) will be ejected into the air.

Generating turbine. In order to operate it, not only the high temperature source but also the lower temperature is required to drive the steam. A system to eject the steam into the air is called back pressure type and the one using cooling tower is called condenser type. In Japan the latter is mainly used.

The control room. I imagined that of a rocket control but it is simpler than I thought.

There are many pictures of control room on the Web. There are more sophisticated ones. Are they old?

Along the way, this is the one for nuclear plant. Not all of them are cool as an old airplane cockpit.

As a result of my brief study, I understood that the geothermal plant cannot be the ultimate answer. Although Japan has many volcanos, whole usable geothermal energy can manage only 10% of the needed electricity, and also there are several real problems. The only way might be to keep making steady efforts. Stick to it Kazumi!

INSILITO 3

A bar named Blue Ant facing an open space. The ant shape behind me is overwhelming by itself. The following is a part of the text of the RPG.
“The cities are controlled by many different rival mega-concerns in the science and weapon industry, yet most parts of the population don't care about the large scale politics and established connections on many levels between the cities. There exists a thriving black market for weapons, drugs, software, food, cybernetics and other technology which remains nearly uncontrollable by the big businesses”

There are several bars and clubs in the city. They could be attractive even in the normal world.
“The city is governed by an Artificial Intelligence operating out of one of Gemini's server clusters ensconced within their orbital data fortress. Many aspects of daily life are under near complete control of the AIs. Because INSILICO is entirely owned by the corporations, the only law enforcement bodies are corporate security forces. These organizations only concern themselves with matters that directly impact the company, and their employees. Disruptive and public crime is only looked at reluctantly, to keep their employees feeling safe and happy.”

“Surrounded by skyscrapers the citizens try to do their job and live their daily life, struggling with the corporate oppression and rampant criminal activities. Most INSILICO residents are armed, some, rather heavily”
A dining area with familiar appearance. Even in the future world, the form of eating might not be changed drastically.

A place like a hospital. The technology might be well advanced, but it looks a bit inhuman.

A corridor in an apartment. I thought it was a jail.

A living compartment. There are some rooms already occupied with some furniture, but they do not seem cozy in a current way. It could be natural as a stage of RPG but there is few entertainment facility. Shooting range and ashram for martial arts were there though.

A park at the center of the city. Plants were completely with hydroponics.

These plants are common in any place but looked very fresh after viewing this area for a while. I wish the future is not like this. But thank the creators for the very interesting world!

Mars Base

The primary objective may be mining, so the base rather seems like a mine rather than a station.

A base in the depths of Valles Marineris. In SL, underground facilities is exposed by putting camera down. But in the RPG, any ability like this that a human/machine couldn’t realistically accomplish through augmentation are not permitted.

There might be some area where terraforming was not completed. Airlocks are at the base.

There is Coca Cola that is also seen around the world. In China it is described as “good mouth good joy”

While strolling around the base, there were several doors saying restricted area. Found myself at a door to outside that does not open. Somewhere along the line I got into the restricted zone. Sorry…

At the front yard of the base, there was a statue made of sand of Mars. Judging from the margin to do this kind of work, even in the harsh environment the human life could be somewhat down-to-Mars. Next time I will return to the city.
